Porch Pride Peace and Sunny War: Bluegrass Pride and Decolonizing the Music Room have been running virtual Porch Pride events all through the Pride month of June. For the third weekend, on June 19, L.A. singer, songwriter and activist Sunny War headlines a stellar show.

The evening is dubbed Juneteenth: A Rainbow Revival, and also features Jake Blount, Yasmin Williams, Jackie & Resa, and Stephanie Anne Johnson.

According to the press release, it’s: “An evening of musical performances curated by Brandi Pace of non-profit Decolonizing the Music Room that will highlight the essential contributions of Black queer, trans, and non-binary folks to roots music and the Pride movement.”

Sunny War has been politically active throughout her career so far. As someone who went though a period of time homeless, she works with Food Not Bombs.

“There was a time I was drinking myself to death, and there was a Food Not Bombs in People’s Park, Berkeley, that would come once a week,” she told us in February. “That was the only time I ate for months. I was blacked out for months. I probably would have died, because I really didn’t eat besides that once a week that they would come to the park. So I thought we should have that.”

Porch Pride Peace and Sunny War: Tune in at 3 p.m. PT on Saturday, June 19 at bluegrasspride.net, Youtube, or Facebook
