An armed female employee came to work at Popcornopolis, an El Segundo popcorn company, and held its chief financial officer hostage this morning, police said.

Luckily nothing popped off and the woman was coaxed into giving up shortly after 11:30 a.m., El Segundo police Capt. Bob Turnbull told the Weekly:

It all started about 8:18 a.m. at the business at 1301 E. El Segundo Blvd. when the woman walked in with a gun and ordered all the employees, except the CFO, to take off, police said.

The suspect then locked herself and the man in an office and stood off as cops arrived, the captain told us.

“We just successfully negotiated her out with a crisis negotiation team,” Turnbull said. “She's in custody.”

A SWAT team was going through the building as a precaution. The woman was not identified and it was not immediately clear what charges she might be looking at.

Suffice it to say, we doubt she'll be popping any corn for a living anytime soon.
