A two-year old black female was discovered by paramedics in full cardiac arrest at about 11 p.m. on Wednesday, October 6. Because her mother is currently serving time in jail, the girl was staying with her maternal grandmother on the 10600 block of Cimarron Street in Westmont. From there, Johnson was transported to Centinela Hospital Medical Center in Inglewood, where she died at 11:15 p.m.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Johnson was beaten to death. Upon inspection, the coroner reported “major physical trauma.”

Daron Smith, the 21-year-old boyfriend of Johnson's mother, was taken to the South L.A. station on Thursday, October 7, where he was charged with the child's murder. Anyone with information about the case is urged to call the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
