L.A. Weekly publisher Brian Calle and podcast co-host Sara Tariq caught up with creative Ibn Jasper, hot on the heels of this season’s Stratica International launch and his sold-out collaboration with Converse.

Coming from the Southside of Chicago, Ibn Jasper wears many hats. The acclaimed streetwear designer is not only known for being the co-founder and creative director of label Stratica International, but for his work as a barber, designer, skateboarder, dancer, DJ … the list goes on! Ibn sat down with Brian and Sara to share his story and strategies for success.

Ibn Jasper

As Kanye West’s barber — one of the only people the artist trusts to put a blade near his head — Ibn is so talented that Kayne moved him out to L.A. so he’d be available to cut hair whenever the star wanted. How does one become a barber to Hollywood’s elite? Listen to hear the story of how it all started in a kitchen.

If you aspire to hustle your business and get to the top, this podcast is for you. Brian and Sara interview our guest for tips on how to get where you want to be. According to Ibn, it’s all about plugging in. Whether you are trying to survive a childhood in Southside or just want to get your shoe line off the ground, by plugging in with all groups of people you can earn their respect without ever having to join.

In this episode the group discusses how there is no such thing as “making it”, as our host wisely states “there’s always tomorrow even if you’re not here.” Tune in to find out how situational awareness, confidence and just showing up to something will help you accomplish your goals.

All work and no play? For Ibn, it’s all the same. From the day club to the nightclub, check out our latest podcast and learn how to play the game by paying attention and being kind — never nice.
