Jazz and jello shots. Where exactly does that leave you? At the Playboy Jazz Festival, trying to figure out how to assemble that tuna salad sandwich, bread or fish first. Good thing it's tasty both ways.

If you've never been to the annual Hollywood Bowl 2-day event, mark your calendar now for next year. It is LA at its best, a rare moment of affordable camaraderie (nosebleeds seats for the afternoon-into-evening event were $10 to $20 a day, depending on when you ponied up) among the handles of Bacardi, jalapeño poppers and jello shots.

The jello shots, this year in both red and green, were tossed by numerous loyal citizens eager to aid their fellow jazz enthusiasts, Squid Ink among them.

We don't remember whether the red was cherry or strawberry, and the Jello “flavor finder” wasn't much help (nor was Bill Cosby, former Jello guru turned Jazz Fest host). But the music was great, the decorated Igloos and cocktail glasses even better.
