Viceroy Santa Monica and Viceroy Los Cabos are collaborating for a culinary celebration timed to National Hispanic Heritage Month. Chef Jason Francisco of Santa Monica’s Sugar Palm and chef Carlos Teran of Los Cabos’ Dalia will present a  Playa to Playa tasting menu available at Sugar Palm, Fridays through Sundays from Friday, Sept. 16 through Sunday, Oct. 16 from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The menu will feature rotating courses from each chef priced at $75 per person and includes seven courses – three created by Chef Francisco (Chapters 1, 3 and 5), three created by Chef Teran (Chapters 2, 4 and 6), and one dessert course conceptualized by both chefs.  Highlights include watermelon sashimi, salmon carpaccio, grilled octopus and steak sashimi roll, as well as lamb kofta and a chocolate duo for dessert.

Featured cocktails available at an additional cost include the Margarita Los Cabos with Clase Azul Reposado Tequila, Grand Marnier, roasted pineapple puree, and lime juice, and the Ocean Ave. Negroni with Dos Gabachos Mezcal, Campari, Cocchi Sweet Vermouth, and orange peel.Untitled design

Cafe Gratitude Venice Beach will host an anniversary event on Sunday Sept. 18, to celebrate 10 years on Rose Avenue. Hosted by guitarist Jason Mraz, there will be pop-ups by local  vendors like Nomadica, Juneshine, Groundwork, Stretchlab, along with a photo booth, raffle prizes, and tacos from the Gracias Madre’s Taco Cart for purchase. From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Café Gratitude’s anniversary event will transform into an early-evening DJ after-party at the bar where the new wine and beverage program and happy hour menu, launching across all Café’s on Sept. 20, will be unveiled.  

Tickets to the Venice anniversary event can be purchased on Eventbrite ($15) and also will be sold at the door, as space permits.

Irv’s Burgers will launch Irv’s Turkey Burger on Saturday, Sept. 17, and the first 50 guests will receive a free turkey burger starting at 11 a.m. The newest addition to the classic roadside burger stand’s menu includes a turkey patty, Irv’s sauce, green hatch chilies, tomatoes, lettuce, onions and cheddar cheese on a house-made bun ($9.50.)

The Japanese Food Expo will be back at the Loew’s Hollywood Hotel on Saturday, Sept. 24. There will be live cutting of a bluefin tuna and a tuna bowl workshop with Chef Andy Matsuda, as well as sushi robots and plenty of Japanese saki and beer.
