Planned Parenthood Los Angeles (PPLA) celebrated the 40th anniversary of its largest annual fundraiser, PPLA Food Fare, last week at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, raising a whopping $1.3 million to benefit its health care and education programs.
Food Fare host committee members Ali Larter, Annabeth Gish, Felicity Huffman, Fred Armisen, KaDee Strickland and Natasha Rothwell joined more than 2,000 Angelenos in sampling food and drink from a record 150 vendors. Participating restaurants included Hock and Hoof, Petty Cash Taqueria, Boneyard Bistro and Valerie’s Confections.
Chef Helene An of House of An featuring Crustacean Beverly Hills was honored as Food Fare’s 2019 Chef of the Year. The entire An family was credited for its continued participation at Food Fare, contributions to Los Angeles’ culinary community and dedication to PPLA’s mission throughout the years.
What originally started in 1979 as a small cooking demonstration by Julia Child has grown into a much-anticipated annual event bringing together the best of Los Angeles’ global food culture. For 40 years, PPLA has raised essential funds through Food Fare to provide affordable, nonjudgmental and confidential reproductive health care services to communities throughout Los Angeles County.
Food Fare is organized and hosted by the Planned Parenthood Los Angeles Guild, a group of more than 180 members dedicated to providing financial and volunteer support for PPLA.
