Plan Check, the gastropub from restaurateur Terry Heller and chef Ernesto Uchimura, is opening a third location today near downtown. The restaurant has enjoyed great popularity at its Fairfax and Little Osaka locations.

The newest outpost is located on Wilshire in Westlake, the neighborhood between downtown and Koreatown. There's been a push recently to call this a part of downtown and name it the City West district. Like the other locations, the focus will be on fancified comfort food, along with a craft beer and whiskey-heavy cocktail program.

Uchimura has become well known for his food, particularly his burgers and sandwiches. He won the distinction of serving L.A.'s best burger this year according to us, and his smokey fried chicken sandwich has a dedicated following.

Apart from these favorites, Uchimura has created some new dishes that nod to the surrounding neighborhoods for the newest location. These include a K-BBQ burger with “kimcheese” (Gruyere cheese processed with wine and dried kimchi for seasoning), Gouchujang barbeque sauce, grilled pork belly, sesame salt, fried onions, and sprouting onion, and a  spicy tuna salad with Sriracha vinaigrette, avocado, puffed rice, sesame, black radish, yellow frisée, nori and garlic flowers.

There will also be a happy hour from 3-6 p.m. Mon.-Fri. featuring $2 off all draft beer, $4 red or white house wine, a $5 seasonal cocktail and a number of happy hour food specials.

Plan Check Downtown is open today from 11 a.m.-midnight.

Plan Check downtown: 1111 Wilshire Boulevard, 213-403-1616.

This post has been corrected to reflect updated happy hour times.
