Go ahead and take off your food-snob shoulder chip for a few minutes and bask in the glorious silliness that is Pink's Famous Hot Dogs. Are these the best hot dogs in the world? No. They're not even the best in L.A., or in Hollywood. But they are a whole lot of fun, which is why people stand in that snaking line — morning, noon and night — to get their hands on one of the celebrity-named hot dogs or just a spicy Polish dog and some chili fries. (On the celeb front, the Huell Howser dog has two hot dogs, chili, cheese, mustard and onions on one bun; the Martha Stewart dog is a 10-inch Stretch Dog with relish, onions, bacon, chopped tomatoes, sauerkraut and sour cream.) The buns are soft, and the dogs are all snap and moosh — the absurdity is that neither holds up under toppings any more complex than ketchup and mustard. But there's plenty of fun in the mess that ensues. Hey, Pink's has been serving since 1939, and Hollywood wouldn't be the same without it. 709 N. La Brea Ave., Hlywd.; (323) 931-4223, pinkshollywood.com. Sun.-Thurs., 9:30 a.m.-2 a.m.; Fri. & Sat., 9:30 a.m.-3 a.m. Hot dogs $3.45-$6.25; burgers $3.95-$7.60. No alcohol.
