The largest Asian night market in the United States is right here in our own backyard, thanks to our huge (and diverse) East, Southeast and South Asian communities. This weekend, the paddock gardens in front of Santa Anita Park — usually reserved for people on their hands and knees, sobbing uncontrollably at their losses at the track — will be lined with rows upon rows of Asian chefs and merchants, showing off their skills and offering up unique delicacies. And 626 Night Market goes beyond fresh soba and sweet boba tea. Expect dare-worthy stinky tofu, small sea creatures on sticks, and mouth-watering deliciousness that would be hard to find even at a Chinatown grocery store. Bring cash; large insulated pouches to fill up with East Asian produce, squid balls and cool almond jelly; and an empty stomach to gorge with spicy noodles and fried sweet meats. Once you're done eating, you can stay for the live music, films and artists painting before your eyes. Also, beer and spirit stands will be scattered around the gardens to help you forget exactly how much you just ate. Wear comfortable shoes — the lines can get long! Santa Anita Park, 285 W. Huntington Drive, Arcadia; Sat., July 6, 4 p.m.-1 a.m.; Sun., July 7, 4-11 p.m.; $2 entry before 6 p.m., $3 after. 626nightmarket.com.
