See our latest: Gas Huffing Truck Owner Plugged in Phone Charger, Sparking Blast.

Boom!

A pickup truck exploded — and we mean exploded — in the middle of a North Hollywood residential neighborhood overnight. The blast sent the roof of the truck flying, shattered neighbors' windows and was felt nearly a mile away, LAPD Sgt. Glenn McNeil told the Weekly.

But was it a crime?

At this point it appears the answer is … probably not.

It happened about five minutes after midnight at 11318 Miranda St., the sergeant said. A propane tank inside the cab of the Nissan Titan truck ignited, he said.

No injuries were reported, but McNeil said:

The backyard looks like a blast site. People as far away as Vanowen [Street] called in to report it.

No injuries were reported. L.A. Fire Department arson investigators were called in to investigate, McNeil said.

He believes it was probably an accident: The owner of the truck was storing belongings, including the tank, inside. It's possible the tank had a slow leak, McNeil said.

“It probably was an accident, but it was hard to tell,” he said. “There was no motive to blow his own truck up.”
