A pickup truck careened onto a downtown sidewalk on a busy afternoon along Broadway, killing a woman and injuring six others, authorities said.

The accident outside Casa India Mexican restaurant at 348 S. Broadway was first reported by the L.A. Fire Department at 1:04 p.m. Sunday.

The deceased was identified only as …

… a 52-year-old woman, according to the LAFD.

Fox 11 News' Christina Gonzalez reported that it was possible the driver of the truck, a 4-door that appeared to be a Chevrolet Avalanch, might have had a diabetic emergency when the vehicle went on the sidewalk and ended up smacking the restaurant with the woman pinned underneath.

he truck moved into oncoming traffic before going onto the sidewalk, Fox 11 reported.

The driver, who apparently had yet to be cited, and two passengers were among the six survivors hospitalized with injuries.

At least one of those victims was said by City News Service to have been “severely injured.” Four of the six people taken to hospitals were in “serious condition,” the LAFD stated.
