See our latest: 6 Random Shootings Rock L.A. as West Hollywood Attack Could Be Connected

A man described by police as a “person of interest” in the seemingly random drive-up murders of three people in the San Fernando Valley yesterday morning was detained by cops after a SWAT standoff last night. Police were also looking for possible links between the Sunday violence and as many as two other slayings in Los Angeles last week.

The man's identity was not released. And because witnesses described as many as a two people in a gold or tan SUV used in the shootings, it's still possible at least one suspect in the shocking attacks is still on the loose.

Los Angeles Police Department Capt. William Hayes told reporters at the scene last night that …

… the detainee had to be hospitalized for unknown injuries after the early evening standoff in the 13700 block of Kismet Avenue in Sylmar.

Police couldn't confirm to us if there was a possible link between Sunday morning's shootings and a 6 a.m. car-to-car injury shooting of a female motorist Wednesday on the 5 freeway in Atwater Village, but Officer Lilian Preciado said the shooter in both cases used a shotgun and was in an SUV.

Besides that Atwater Village attack, investigators were probing the possibility of a connection to at least one other shooting last week, the LAPD's Frank Preciado told Associated Press. The other attack happened Thursday in Pacoima, where a man was found fatally shot inside a stopped-but-running vehicle.

Sunday's shootings started about 5:50 a.m. in the 1400 block of Celis Street in the city of San Fernando when cops discovered five gunshot victims, one of them dead at the scene, according to the LAPD.

The victim was said to be the wife daughter of the father-son victims who were reportedly Eucharist Ministers at Santa Rosa Catholic Church.

At 6:35 a.m. firefighters at Los Angeles Fire Department station 91 heard gunfire and summoned police, who found a man of about 30 years of age fatally shot in 13000 block of Borden Avenue, at the Sylmar Recreational Center, according to the LAPD.

At 6:45 a.m. a woman who had been fatally shot in the head in the 1200 block of Fillmore Street was discovered, the LAPD said. NBC Los Angles reported that she had been in a stopped car, waiting to pick up a friend so they could attend Guardian Angel Church together.

The station reported that a mattress nearby had been freshly painted with satanic symbols or language.

The LAPD said they were still working an “ongoing investigation” and that witnesses or anyone with information about the attacks should call 877-527-3247.
