Miguel Carranza – Bar Calo

image0 2

Me llamo Miguel Carranza y la razón porque yo celebro El Mes De La Herencia Latina es porque a pesar de haber nacido en Los Ángeles, California soy orgullosamente hijo de padres Salvadoreños. Yes I do read, write and speak fluent Spanish and Portuguese. Through my language I’m able to see and understand more of my culture and heritage.

One of the best parts of bartending here in Los Angeles is that I get to meet people from all over the world. I also get to hear all the beautiful different Spanish accents and slangs.

Dia de Los Muertos to me and my family is a day when we celebrate the lives of loved ones that have passed away. It’s a day that through memories and stories we bring our loved ones back to life. As a kid and even till this day my parents decorate their home with flowers and light candles next to pictures of those we wish to remember. My favorite memory is the scent of flowers and scented candles that would linger throughout the house for days. The reason we do flowers over shrines is because my mother believes that we should give flowers to our living loved ones rather than wait till they’re dead.  Celebrate with a Perrier® cocktail

Phil Ochoal – Petit Trois

phil

I’m Phil Ochoa, Bar Manager for Petit Trois in Hollywood. I began my career in service well before I even knew it, helping my best friend’s father at his bar & grill after school and during the summers as a barback and dishwasher. I eventually grew up and went to school for fashion but always felt called to the service industry. After college I was working as a stylist when I realized that my passion was in service, and that I could focus my creativity on developing cocktails and curating menus. Working for Chef Ludo at Petit Trois has been one of my career goals for the past 5 years; I hope to elevate the cocktail program and bring it to a level that matches the quality of food and service that we provide for our guests.

Dia de Los Muertos to me is focused on traditions around my grandmother and grandfather. I constantly lean on the flavor profiles and combinations I learned from cooking with my grandmother as a child, and I have my grandfather to thank for my work ethic and drive. They both did their best to develop my creativity and raise a conscientious leader. Celebrate with a Perrier® cocktail!

We put flowers, bread, candles, candy, bottles of Mezcal pretty much everything we wish we were still enjoying with them . Dia de Los Muertos to me is a very special day in our family in which we all get together and reminisce on all the good times we had with our loved ones who are no longer here. We break bread, drink mezcal and eat a lot of delicious food from Oaxaca. Celebrate with a Perrier® cocktail
