Initially we thought this had to be a joke — an event created solely for L.A. Weekly to snark at. A pen convention? We immediately lumped the pen enthusiasts in with the foot fetish-ers. But, we then took note that this is the 23rd Annual Los Angeles International Pen Show. Oh yes, almost a quarter century of build-up to this scribe spectacular, and if you've ever known the joy of gliding a brand new hoity-toity fountain pen across crisp new stationary, you know that smoothness is addictive. Even if you haven't we all hate shitty pens anyway? You know you have those go-to pens on your desk that you hoard, and curse when they go missing. So let your pen freak flag fly! Like a traveling pen circus, this event promises the world's hottest pen attractions: pens from Europe, Africa, Israel, the Pacific Rim (no, really.) Pens dating back to 1915. Pens reminiscent of the “Nifty '50s.” Tons to try and buy. There's even a little pen-specific Antiques Roadshow where your can get your pens appraised. Are you an extra-fine or italic point? Did you even know such a thing existed? Oh my God we're totally going.
