Suspected DUI Crash near Bankers Hill Resulted in Fatality

SAN DIEGO, CA (October 6, 2022) – A pedestrian was pronounced dead after a suspected DUI Crash on Fifth Ave, police said Sunday night. The fatal accident happened shortly after 10 p.m., near the Bankers Hill area.

According to the report, the northbound Penske truck veered to the right and side-swiped a parked vehicle. Afterward, the truck continued over the raised curb and hit a sitting male pedestrian. The vehicle came to a stop after striking a building east of Fifth Avenue.

Tragically, medical responders declared the pedestrian dead at the scene after sustaining fatal injuries. However, his identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

Additionally, the involved truck driver was hospitalized for significant injuries.

At this time, investigators believe that alcohol contributed to the fatal incident. San Diego Police Traffic Division Officers continue to investigate the 1800 Fifth Ave suspected DUI crash.
