Forget about the Olympics. On 8-8-08, clubgoers can experience the ultimate test of endurance, agility and skill: Peanut butter Wolf vs. L.A., or rather PBW versus himself. The Stone’s Throw Records co-founder aims to outdo his ’07 spin-a-thon, which featured seven genres over seven nights at seven venues, all strictly on wax. This time, he’s presenting video mixes, and if what we saw at a recent Stone’s Throw party in Echo Park is any indication, the clippys will be trippy. In fact, it might just be the future of deejaying (many clubs around the country already have resident “VJs,” but Wolf might be the first to bring the concept to L.A.’s hipper urban hubs). It all kicks off Friday, when the music madman (who famously offered a heavy-metal DJ set and podcast on 6-6-06) does disco on the decks in Chinatown, with the subsequent seven nights offering voracious visuals and sound stylings running the dance-music gamut, with nothing played twice. Whether you choose to join in the nonstop nightly revelry or pick a favorite genre or two, prepare for some gold medal–worthy groovin.’ Fri., Aug. 1: disco at Club Firecracker @ Grand Star.
