Bloomberg news is reporting that C. Dean Metropoulos & Co., the company that also owns Pabst Blue Ribbon, is actively engaged in trying to buy the cakes business of bankrupt Hostess. Which means, if you look at it another way, that PBR will own Twinkies. From the Bloomberg story:

“We continue to be very engaged in the bidding process,” Daren Metropoulos, a principal at the private-equity firm that owns Pabst Brewing Co., said in an e-mail. “We are working diligently to get a deal done … It would be a tremendous opportunity to resurrect these legendary brands and bring them back to the consumer,” Metropoulos said.

Over on Grub Street NY, they conclude that this deal may result in a new hipster food group. But do hipsters really eat Twinkies? Does anyone really eat Twinkies? Seriously, who the hell eats Twinkies????

If nothing else this will place Metropoulos in a strong position in the cheapest-shit-at-the-gas-station category, which I assume is coveted amongst producers of bad beer and worse cakes.
