Coroner's officials concluded Paul Walker died from “multiple traumatic injuries” following the fatal collision between a Porsche he was riding in and a “fixed object” in Valencia last weekend, according to a statement from investigators that was released today.

The driver of the 2005 Carrera GT, 38-year-old Roger Rodas, died of both “traumatic and thermal injuries,” according to the statement:

That suggests Rodas died from burns as well as from the impact of the crash.

We reached out to coroner's officials for further details but none were forthcoming. Other reports are suggesting that both men died before fire engulfed the rare, V-10 sports car Saturday afternoon.

CNN overnight suggested that the two had one minute to escape with their lives before a full-on blaze started to send black smoke above the crash scene. The network based that on video (below) that showed the smoke rising 60 seconds after impact with a tree.

However, the vehicle was mangled almost beyond recognition, with some witnesses saying it actually split into pieces.

The deaths of both men, including the Fast and The Furious actor the coroner's office identifies as 40-year-old Paul William Walker IV, were ruled to be accidents.

Toxicology tests to determine if drugs or alcohol were involved are expected to take another six weeks or so to complete.

The two friends decided to take a spin Saturday in Rodas' recently acquired Carrera GT, a notoriously difficult car to drive, and were involved in what sheriff's officials say was a solo-vehicle crash.
