Dennis RomeroA few days after a pair of cops were credited with saving the life of a woman in a burning tent downtown, two LAPD officers are being praised for helping to save the life of an elderly woman at a pizza restaurant in the Valley.
The duo was flagged down by a restaurant employee Saturday at 1:30 p.m., cops said. The 75-year-old had been choking, according to the LAPD:
Officers Paul Maldonado and Kurt Logan went into action at the restaurant in the 6200 block of Topanga Canyon Boulevard, police said. According to an LAPD statement:
The officers began administering CPR. Several minutes later, Los Angeles Fire Department Rescue personnel responded and continued treating the unconscious woman. The paramedics transported the woman to a local hospital where she was revived and was breathing on her own. The woman remains in the hospital and is recovering from this incident.
Luckily one of the two cops, Maldonado, was a former reserve firefighter and ostensibly had received a higher level of life-saving training. He said:
When we walked in, I saw her on the floor to the rear of the restaurant and immediately started CPR. Within minutes, we were able to get a pulse.
A L.A. Fire Department captain, Jeff Easton, said the duo's quick response made all the difference in the world:
The successful resuscitation of this elderly citizen can be directly attributed to the quick and effective CPR initiated by the LAPD officers.
