2 Pronounced Dead after Fatal Collision near Azevedo Road

NEWMAN, CA (February 25, 2022) – A head-on crash on River Road claimed the life of Patrick Gomez and another, early Monday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 5:22 a.m., on South River Road, just north of Azevedo Road.

Investigators said that the driver of a northbound Ram pickup-truck pulled in front of a southbound Nissan Maxima while attempting to pass a big-rig.

As a result, both vehicles collided head-on and hit the right side of the semi-truck.

The Nissan driver, identified as 38-year-old Gomez, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene.

Meanwhile, the Ram started to catch on fire and took the life of the 52-year-old female driver from Newman. Although, authorities have not yet released her identity.

At this time, Newman Officials are still working to identify the deceased female victim.
