Miguel Hernandez Arrested after Suspected DUI Crash on Road 27

MADERA, CA (February 15, 2022) – Early Wednesday night, 49-year-old Patricia Vargas was killed in a DUI collision on Avenue 17.

The fatal accident happened around 6:00 p.m., near the intersection of Road 27 and Avenue 17. Dispatchers responded to the scene shortly after.

Per reports, 33-year-old Miguel Hernandez was driving a Chrysler north on Road 27 when he made an abrupt turn onto westbound Avenue 17. Vargas, who was driving a Nissan Rogue on Avenue 17 at the time, swerved to avoid the Chrysler.

As a result, Vargas eventually collided head-on with a nearby trailer truck. Due to the impact of the collision, medics pronounced Vargas dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, medics transported Patricia’s 11-year-old daughter and another adult passenger to the hospital for further treatment. According to officials, they are both out of the ICU and expected to fully recover.

Eventually, California Highway Patrol officers arrested 33-year-old Hernandez, on multiple charges, including a DUI with three priors and murder.
