If you refuse to believe things were better back in the day, behold:

Pat Sajak says that in his early years hosting the TV game show Wheel of Fortune he would straight-up get drunk during breaks. And he said “hostess” Vanna White joined him.

That would be in the 1980s, friends, time of the Jordache jean. Here's how Sajak explained it on ESPN2:

The show would have a two-and-a-half-hour break between taping, so he and Vanna would hit a Mexican restaurant in Burbank called Los Arcos and have margaritas.

Vanna and I would … have two or three or six and then come and do the last shows and have trouble recognizing the alphabet. I had a great time. I have no idea if the shows were any good, but no one said anything, so I guess I did okay.

… When I first started and was much younger and could tolerate those things. We had a different show then.

“The final spin” must have been the feeling he got the next morning. We're surprised no one was doing coke.

Still, you have to admire the brass of a bygone era. Nobody drinks at lunch anymore.
