Carmel Valley Wrong-Way Crash on State Route 56 Leaves One Fatality

CARMEL VALLEY, CA (July 13, 2021) – A head-on collision following a wrong-way crash on State Route 56 left a passenger dead.

The fatal incident happened around 1:44 a.m., on Saturday on the eastbound lanes. Officers arrived just east of Carmel Country Road, shortly after.

CHP says that the crash involved a silver Honda Civic and a blue Mazda CX-5. Investigators determined that a 22-year-old man driving the Honda was traveling west in the eastbound lanes.

As a result, the vehicles eventually collided head-on. The female passenger of the Honda died at the scene and police later arrested the driver for suspected DUI.

Meanwhile, paramedics transported the Mazda driver to a hospital with minor injuries.

The Carmel Valley Authorities closed down the eastbound lanes until 6:10 A.M. to investigate the wrong-way crash on State Route 56.
