Pasadena firefighters are preparing for the Fourth of July weekend by spraying a fire-retardant chemical on brush around the Rose Bowl to reduce to the possibility of a wildfire by a fireworks show there scheduled for that day.

According to Lisa Derderian of the Pasadena Fire Department, workers are spraying roughly 8,000 pounds of retardant from tanker trucks. This is the 12th year the fire department has conducted this operation.

Americafest 2010 at the Rose Bowl stadium is the biggest Fourth of July fireworks show in Southern California. It has long been an Independence Day hotspot, drawing in thousands of spectators.

Tickets are $13 each. Gates open at 10 am on July 4th.
