With a biopic in theaters and events celebrating his music such as last week’s live tribute at the Hollywood Bowl, James Brown’s been gettin’ on up on pop culture big-time lately. This event sees some of the best soul and funk DJs tackling the sex machine’s visceral and rhythmic song list with an exotic addition — the music of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti.

Spinning “exclusives, covers, samples and hits” by both innovators, plus artists inspired by them, the lineup includes DJ Jedi, NYC-to-Philly fave Rich Medina and Beat Junkies/Stones Throw producer J. Rocc. If this party doesn’t make you break out in a cold sweat, you got no soul in you whatsoever.
