The Well
1006 S. Olive St., Downtown, Fri., March 21, 8 p.m.-2 a.m., 21+, $10 ($5 with RSVP).

Jonathan Toubin is a turntable legend in New York – not for being innovative or tech-trendy, as the city's more popular nightlife impresarios seek to be, but for bringing back the basics of a good party to the Big Apple. Infectious soul music (on wax) and sex machine – style dancing 'til the sweat-soaked dawn are the staples at his soirees. He even adds a competitive element to the fun with his famed dance-offs, in which local luminaries judge the best moves and award prizes to couples on the floor.

Toubin has taken his bootie-shaking bashes to other big cities, to much acclaim, and L.A. in particular has always offered welcoming vibes. This Friday should be no exception as Toubin's Night Train, Soul Clap and Dance-Off rolls back into town, this time joining forces with Echo Park faves Funky Sole. DJs Clifton, Music Man Miles and Nick Waterhouse will be on the decks along with Toubin. Neil Hamburger emcees; the big-name judges are TBA.
