Los Angeles’ oldest tiki bar, the Tonga Hut Tiki Lounge, knows how to scare up intoxicating fun all year ’round. This time of year, its annual Monsters & Mai Tais bash takes the usual tropical-themed revelry to a terror-ific level, with a parking-lot party featuring vendors selling Halloween-themed art, tiki mugs and accessories, a costume contest, drink specials, food and music inside the bar and out.

Hair-raising rockers Jason Lee and The Black Tides are the featured live band this time out, while DJ Tonga Tom (who provides the weekly soundtrack at the bar’s infamous, rum-soaked Sunday nights) spins exotica, garage and surf sounds. An exhibit will feature creepy creations from the best of the tiki vendors, culminating in a “Beast in Show” award. It’s an opportunity to dress up in your favorite freaky tiki gear, groovin’ ghoul garb or both.
