Sunset Triangle Plaza, and elsewhere throughout the city
Sunset and Griffith Park boulevards, Silver Lake, Saturday, June 21,? 10 a.m.-10 p.m., Free

The annual celebration known as Make Music Los Angeles is back to mark the summer solstice and unify the city in melodious sounds and goodwill. It might seem a bit hippie, but no one can deny the power of music in bringing people together.

MMLA takes place throughout the city, running the gamut genre-wise, from jazz to punk and hip-hop to opera, with simultaneous festivities in more than 700 cities worldwide.

In Silver Lake, one of the liveliest events takes place in the Sunset Triangle Plaza in front of Mornings Nights Cafe (also where the Saturday farmers market takes place). At press time, the lineup for this hap was being put together, but we attended last year and it was a vibrant example of the diversity the neighborhood offers musically, from drum jams to pop-rock to folk. Despite the area's much-derided “hipster” evolution, this one promises zero posturing and pure partying.
