There’s lots to do this Fourth of July weekend, and as usual, we call out the cool stuff with a twist, atypical events that the weekend-warrior set tends to overlook. Here are two of our faves.

POOL PARTY AT THE TROPICANA 
Roosevelt Hotel, 7000 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, Friday, July 4, noon-8 p.m., $40 

Though some bozos and bikini’d ravers descend upon day parties at the Roosevelt in hot months, the soirees thrown by HomemadeLA seem to attract serious music heads in equal measure. With Chicago house music legend Mark Farina on the decks, this will surely be the case on the Fourth.

BAR SINISTER AT BOARDNER’S
1652 N. Cherokee Ave., Hollywood, Saturday, July 5, 10 p.m.-3 a.m. 

Arguably the Los Angeles goth scene’s most popular go-go dancer, Shannon Chromegirl has helped turn go-go-ing into something of a persona-driven endeavor. The spiky-haired grinder celebrates her birthday at Bar Sinister, and since she’s fond of illuminated get-ups, expect the eye candy at this bash to make fireworks around town pale in comparison.
