The king of retro L.A., Charles Phoenix celebrates the gaudy goodness and kitschy cool of the city’s landmarks in his books, tours and website. His irreverent style is always educational and always a laugh riot, because that’s how he rolls.

This week, he rolls all right, returning to a favorite locale, Glendale’s Moonlight Rollerway, for a show and skate dance party. The rink’s skating stars and some world champions will perform costumed musical acts, interspersed with Phoenix’s always colorful commentary.

Dominic, “The World’s Greatest Roller Rink Organist,” according to Phoenix, provides his musical stylings and afterward, it’s hot wheels all the way as the floor is opened to everyone laced up. This one should get pretty wild: The “Hokey Pokey” is promised. Free snack-bar treats, skate rental and parking across the street at Home Depot with paid admission.
