It's a few weeks until Halloween, but already something wicked is in the air. People are dressing a little darker and feeling a little more sinful, while events seem to be raging later than ever. We'll provide the ultimate Halloween guide next week, but for now, here are the best Saturday-night dance haunts to get you in the mood.

Get hexed at the Vex for Mad Monster Party. Psychobilly faves The Meteors had to cancel, but the party will feature Gamblers Mark, The Grims, The Quaranteds, Uptown Psychos, Catacomb Rockers, Tres Muertos and turntable terrors Von Badsville and Edward Transylvania. Midnight costume contest and free trick and treats.

Meanwhile, the Dragonfly's Monster Mash invites revelers to “exhume the fangs, sheets, bandaging and blood,” with two dance rooms, a punk-rock patio and seven spooky DJs (Dingbat, The Baron, Jason Farber, Xian, Daem0n, Sartoki and Krieg) spinning goth, post-punk, deathrock, industrial, darkwave and more pre-1995 music. Monstrous costumes are encouraged.

Finally, at Medusa Lounge, Night Horrors has a scary-cool mix of DJs and bands. Spinning: Apollo Starr, Scott Savak, Jose Shuton and That Girl Carol. Rocking: The Hangmen, The Blessings, Viacrucis and The Blackouts ('80s & '90s dark-wave covers). Plus go-go dancers, drink specials, a costume contest, a smoking patio, tarot card reader and more.
