We’re not sure why Headline Records gets left off most “best record store” blog lists these days. Perhaps because it’s not a trendy new “all-vinyl” shop? Nonetheless, the punk-music emporium deserves props as both a beacon for a bygone era (when Melrose was cool) and for keeping punk rock’s spirit alive.

It’s been 20 years since owner Jean-Luc Gaudry opened his first shop on Melrose, which famously hosted raucous punk gigs. When it moved to a smaller place, the in-stores stopped, but Headline never stopped celebrating hardcore and heavy music, imported and domestic, whether vinyl, CD and collector’s merch.

Marking 20 years of mayhem, Headline’s throwing a party featuring an exhibit of original flyer art (250-plus pieces) from the store’s infamous gigs, all for sale at Lethal Amounts gallery. You can bet your combat boots that whatever else they have in store will make for a brutal bash.
