The Museum of Jurassic Technology plus Pamela Z equals this entrancing multimedia opera that “charts the magical journey of one Alice May Williams from New Zealand to the Mount Wilson Observatory, where she finds herself in an enchanted museum of esoteric curios and unheard-of marvels.” The Alpert Award–winning Miss Z, a wizard of live electronic processing and sampling, has created not only an opera but a fantastic world in which ghostly images appear and disappear in an exquisitely bizarre space that’s part museum, part dream. Her voice, which segues from articulate narration to the most ethereal tonalities, dominates; one segment, “Vulgar Remedies,” whose language is taken from the museum’s display captions, layers hauntingly pure vocals over a clipped account of the discovery of penicillin, eventually dissolving into a hypnotic stream-of-consciousness meditation. Scored by Pamela Z and Matthew Brubeck, performed by Pamela Z and cellist Alex Kelly, with video by Christina McPhee. REDCAT, W. Second & Hope sts., dwntwn.; Thurs., Oct. 12, 8:30 p.m.; $10-$20.
