This weekend marked the annual Sunset Junction festival in Silver Lake, the last big summer street bash that signals a fast approaching fall and, for many, a return to school. Despite ongoing conflicts between festival promoters, local residents and business owners, Sunset Junction went off in full force Saturday and Sunday, featuring performances by bands like Warpaint, Nico Vega, Conor Oberst, the Submarines, Dengue Fever, the Delta Spirt, Local Natives, the Sonics and more. For those who opted to stay away from the clogged artery that was the Junction over the weekend, there was plenty more to check out like Body Rock 09's Girls Gone Graff event, roller disco at the Echoplex, and Kings of Leon at the Forum. Read on for more of what we did and who we saw…

Down and Derby Roller Disco at the Echoplex

On Thursday night the Echoplex was overrun with partygoers clad in neon headbands and tube socks who came to skate, drink and make out, all while balancing on eight wheels. View more photographs in Colin Young-Wolff's “Down and Derby Roller Disco” slideshow.

At least one neighbor at this weekend's Sunset Junction Street Fair had an opinion on the music and atmosphere of this year's festival. This is not, mind you, L.A. Weekly's endorsed review. Kings of Leon sold out the Forum in Inglewood on Saturday night and brought out the tailgaters in full force. Wait… isn't drinking in a parking lot illegal? View more photographs in Timothy Norris' “Kings of Leon + Tailgate Party” slideshow.
