Sunday night was a winning night for L.A. Weekly at the Los Angeles Press Club Awards ceremony at the Universal City Sheraton hotel. Writers Christine Pelisek, Daniel Heimpel, Gendy Alimurung and Nancy Rommelmann all took home first place awards, while Darrick Rainey, Steven Leigh Morris, Patrick Range McDonald and Ella Taylor all took second place honors. Meanwhile downtown L.A. was a mess — the streets filled with drunk and disorderly Angelenos looting local businesses, setting trash cans on fire, breaking into cars and causing property damage, all in the name of a Lakers victory at the Staples Center. It was a depressing scene to come home to after a night celebrating your peers' accomplishments. Read on for more of who we saw and what we did this weekend that didn't involve a #lakerfail.

L.A. Gay Pride Parade

On Sunday, hundreds of thousands LGBT folks from Southern California and beyond gathered in West Hollywood for the 39th annual L.A. Gay Pride Parade as marchers made their way west on Santa Monica Boulevard. Possibly more than ever, the ethnic and racial diversity of the gay community was on display. San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, who's running for governor of California, and other politicians also walked in the parade. View more photos in Patrick Range McDonald's slideshow.

What better way to kick off the weekend than with delinquent girls trained to fight as entertainment for the Chinese Mafia? Precision Los Angeles and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on the rooftop of the Kress in Hollywood, featuring performances by the Kung Fu Femmes. All proceeds from the event and silent auction were donated to Children of the Night. View more photos in Colin Young-Wolff's slideshow.

Jay Reatard lined 'em up and knocked 'em down at the Echo on Friday. Forgot your ear plugs? Hope you wadded up some paper then, 'cause those guitars were loud. San Francisco's Thee Oh Sees opened. View more photos in Timothy Norris' slideshow.
