Erin BroadleySaturday and Sunday provided a much needed break from our laptops and TV screens after the media frenzy over the deaths of pop culture icons Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson, plus the loss of Seeds frontman Sky Sunlight Saxon, all in one day on June 25. For those who opted not to participate in any mass moonwalks or candlelight vigils on Hollywood stars, there was plenty else to keep us occupied over the weekend. We practiced our “o” face at the Air Sex Championships, indulged our inner-raver at the two-day Electric Daisy Carnival, and celebrated legendary graffiti muralists at the closing night of Crewest Gallery's The Legendary Belmont Tunnel show.

Graffiti photographer and Graffiti L.A. author Steve Grody speaks graffiti's language, and at Saturday's closing night of Crewest's The Legendary Belmont Tunnel show he decoded the signs of spray can-armed wall writers. For Grody, the Rosetta Stone for graff writers was the Belmont Tunnel, a subway tunnel abandoned in the mid-20th century, whose gaping concrete mouth served as a canvas for guerrilla muralists.
