Dennis RomeroWhen it comes to pot shops, Orange County isn't exactly green with envy over the city of L.A's title as marijuana dispensary capital of the nation.
In fact, the county's staff has recommended that O.C. outlaw pot shops in unincorporated areas of the county. The O.C. Board of Supervisors, which would have the ultimate say over such an issue, was expected to decide Tuesday.
The staff recommendation would have the county impose $1,000-a-day fines for pot shops that stay open despite the ban. This, according to the Orange County Register.
The L.A. County Board of Supervisors already voted such a ban into life last summer. It applies to areas of the county that don't have their own cities. Those zones cover about 1 million people.
A key accusation down in O.C. is that many pot shops don't adhere to state law by operating on a nonprofit basis and getting cannabis only to the “seriously ill.” They're actually for-profit, drug-dealing operations, Orange County authorities contend.
