Crane Operator Dead after Crane Accident on Las Flores Canyon near Gorge Road

MALIBU, CA (April 11, 2023) – Wednesday evening, a crane accident on Las Flores Canyon Road claimed the life of its operator. The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. near Las Flores Canyon and Gorge Road, a mile north of Pacific Coast Highway. According to reports, a crane toppled over at a worksite. As a result, the operator of the crane became trapped between power lines. Firefighters responded at the scene and waited for the power lines to be cut off before approaching the crane. Following the operator’s extrication, medics pronounced him dead. The operator’s identity has not been released to the public. At this time, the circumstances that led up to the crane accident remain unclear. Reports indicate that Southern California Edison also responded to the scene. Malibu Officials shut down the Pacific Coast Highway from Las Flores Canyon Road to Hume Road as crews clear out the scene.
