The neighborhood where Traction meets Third will become even more of a foodist attraction come this summer when Umami Burger opens just steps away from Wurstkuche, the Pie Hole and Angel City Brewery. The new Arts District spot marks the 15th Southern California post in Adam Fleischman's ever-growing burger empire, which recently opened its first East Coast restaurant in South Beach.

As with Umami Burger joints old and newer, the menu at the latest outpost in L.A. will include the expected dishes, as well as a burger unique to the location. The space will feature art and design from local artists as well as a rear courtyard, and is expected to accommodate a maximum occupancy of 60.

Next up in the expansion plans: Oakland, Burbank and Irvine, plus three locations in New York City. Further down the road, Umami Burgers are planned for Chicago, D.C., Las Vegas and Philadelphia as part of a $20 million investment from New York-based Fortress Investment Group.

And for those not content to travel without a truffle burger, an Umami Burger — and ink.sack, L.A. Mill, the Larder at Tavern, Chaya and Border Grill, to name a few more — is planned for the new (and improved) Tom Bradley Terminal at LAX, scheduled to open in 2014.
