Attaining overnight success in the restaurant business is largely an urban myth (unless you're backed by a corporate restaurant group with tons of money to spend on marketing). Even a few empty seats in your new eatery can make you sweat. While we're waiting for Sqirl to open in Silver Lake and Maison Giraud to open in Pacific Palisades, here are a few more October 2011 restaurant openings and closures.

Eat.Good.Clean.Food, which soft-opened last month in Culver City, has already undergone a name change to Café Livre et Le Marché and is set to officially reopen November 1st.

The Gastrobus went under in 2010 is still alive and kicking, and owner Antonio Medina (former executive chef for Wolfgang Puck at the Pacific Design Center) opened Gastronomico — a sit-down cafe on Hillhurst Avenue — in early October.

Last week, Pink Taco owner Harry Morton opened Fukuburger LA in Hollywood.

Ahn Joo, chef Debbie Lee's Korean hub for pub grub, will debut this Thursday (November 3rd) at The Americana at Brand, the same day that the newest outpost of Chi Dynasty opens at the shopping mall.

Popular Orange County brewpub Haven Gastropub + Brewery is set to open a 7,500-square-foot space in Pasadena in mid-November.

In Westwood, Greek fast-casual restaurant Damon & Pythias closed, joining a slew of similar eateries that have tanked in that neighborhood. Also in Westwood, Skylight Gardens, which posted signage several months ago in the former Gardens on Glendon space, still shows no signs of life.
