1 Pronounced Dead after Fatal Two-Car Collision near Interstate 17 in Phoenix

PHOENIX, AZ (December 14, 2021) – One individual died in a wrong-way crash on Loop 101 near Interstate 17 early Saturday morning.

According to the Department of Public Safety, the crash happened around 3:00 a.m. Dispatchers responded to the scene shortly after.

Per reports, the driver of a car was heading west in the eastbound lanes for reasons unknown. Eventually, the driver crashed head-on with another vehicle.

Paramedics responded and pronounced one victim dead at the scene. However, their name and place of residency has not yet been released.

In addition, investigators say both cars were obstructing the HOV and number one lanes. Eventually, the crash resulted in the closure of the Loop 101 at Interstate 17 and  27th Avenue on ramp for an unknown amount of time.

Meanwhile, an active investigation is still currently underway. Once available, more details will be provided.
