One Dead, Two Hospitalized after Multi-Car Collision on South Street

CERRITOS, CA (January 20, 2022) – Wednesday morning, one person died and two sustained injuries in a six-vehicle crash on Bloomfield Avenue.

Per police reports, the collision happened around 9:10 a.m., at the intersection of Bloomfield Avenue and South Street.

Investigators say the driver of a Mercedes was speeding on the highway and slammed into the rear of a FedEx truck. Additionally, a mid size silver SUV and three other vehicles became involved.

Video footage from the scene shows the FedEx truck angled across several lanes of the road with its frame bent and side panel caved in. Packages were also spread across the highway near a severely damaged dark gray sedan.

Hours after the collision, medics were still attempting to extricate the Mercedes driver from the wreckage. According to officers, one person was pronounced dead at the scene due to the extent of their condition.

Additionally, crews transported another victim with the unspecified injuries to a trauma center for further treatment.

At this time, the deadly crash is still under active investigation.
