1 Pronounced Dead after Big-Rig Versus Pedestrian Collision near 23rd Avenue Off-Ramp
OAKLAND, CA (July 17, 2023) – Early Thursday morning, a pedestrian accident on Interstate 880 took the life of one person.
Officers responded to the scene around 3:39 a.m., just south of 16th Avenue and the southbound off-ramp of 23rd Avenue.
Upon arrival, crews discovered that the driver of a big-rig struck a pedestrian who was walking in a south direction for reasons unknown.
Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. Although, authorities have not yet released their identity.
In addition, the big-rig driver remained at the site of the incident and cooperated with the investigation. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be a factor.
Around 3:49 a.m., authorities issued a SigAlert to close the southbound lanes of 16th Avenue until 4:55 a.m. Those who witnessed the incident are encouraged to contact Oakland Officials as soon as possible.
