Traffic Collision Near California Incline Left Several Casualties

SANTA MONICA, CA (May 2, 2023) – Saturday afternoon, a two-car crash on Pacific Coast Highway left one person dead and nine others hospitalized. The fatal incident happened around 3:10 p.m. at the 1000 block of PCH near the California Incline. According to the report, a northbound Kia SUV with six adults and two juveniles attempted to turn left into Beach Lot Four North. However, it was T-boned by a Toyota Camry traveling southbound with two adult occupants. Investigators said the Camry hit Kia’s rear passenger-side door. Eventually, emergency responders arrived and transported all ten occupants to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Westwood. Tragically, one of the occupants sustained significant injuries and died later at the hospital. The identity of the deceased patient has not been disclosed, pending notification from the next of kin. Police said the other occupants mainly suffered minor injuries. In the end, Santa Monica police closed down the northbound lanes of Pacific Coast Highway between the 900 and 1000 blocks. The CHP issued a SigAlert around 4:50 p.m., closing the westbound Santa Monica 10 Freeway at Fourth Street. It remains unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the two-car crash.
