Multi-Vehicle Collision near 66th Avenue Left Lanes Blocked

OAKLAND, CA (July 18, 2023) – Early Friday morning, police responded to a deadly multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 880. It happened in the southbound lanes near 66th Avenue off-ramp at around 1:45 p.m., July 14th, involving 10 vehicles. According to the CHP, an initial 5-vehicle collision happened in the area where the lanes were shut down. Furthermore, at 3:30 a.m., while the vehicles were shut down on the freeway, a speeding driver slammed into them causing another collision. Unfortunately, a woman was pronounced dead at the scene. She was determined to be stopped during the initial collision. Also, one other person was injured and was taken to the hospital for treatment. Consequently, the authorities issued a SigAlert which was later lifted by 5:00 a.m. Traffic has since been operable. At this time, the events that led to the collision were not yet determined and further investigation is still ongoing.
