Caltrans Worker Hospitalized after Fiery Big-Rig Crash near Meridian Road

SOLANO COUNTY, CA (October 14, 2021)  A Caltrans tractor driver suffered injuries after a big-rig crash on Interstate 80 on Monday morning.

The collision occurred shortly before 9:00 a.m. on the westbound I-80 shoulder at Meridian Road, near Dixon and Vacaville.

According to the CHP, an 18-wheeler struck a Caltrans loader on the side of the highway near North Meridian Road.

As a result, the big rig bursted into flames.

Officers and firemen on the scene freed the trapped Caltrans worker from the loader. Medics subsequently took the worker to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Firefighters were eventually able to put out the fire aboard the big rig. No additional injuries were reported, according to authorities.
