Semi Truck Collision on Highway 33 Leaves One Person Dead

FRESNO, CA (August 24, 2021) At least one person died tragically after a semi truck collision on Highway 33 last Monday morning in Fresno.

Officers responded to the crash on Highway 33 near Douglas Avenue shortly before 3:30 a.m. August 16.

According to investigators, the driver of the Hyundai Veloster was traveling southbound on the highway when he abruptly veered into the northbound lanes, colliding head-on with a semi-truck transporting tomatoes.

The Hyundai caught fire as a result of the collision. The flames were extinguished by firefighters.

The male driver inside tragically died at the scene, CHP stated.

Meanwhile, medics transported the semi-truck driver to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries.

During the cleanup, officials temporarily closed Highway 33. However, the road has since reopened.

Police are investigating and have not determined what caused the crash.
