What better way to commemorate the lives of soldiers who have died in military service than by raising a glass of vino and saying “thanks”? So skip the poolside parties and backyard barbecues and head on over to Westwood to pay your respects at the Los Angeles Veterans Cemetery. Then set your sights east — downtown, that is — to the second annual City of Angels Wine Fest to toast those who gave their lives serving our country. You'll be able to make multiple tributes, since reps from 24 California wineries will be pouring, including San Antonio, Alma Rosa, Wilson Creek, Hunt Cellars, Pali Wine Co., Flora Springs, Tolosa and Claiborne & Churchill. Pair your wine choices with foodstuffs from Nick+Stef's Steakhouse, Kendall's Brasserie, Café Pinot, Tina Tacos and Zucca Ristorante. while listening to the tunes of the Family Crest and Jimmy Gnecco (from the rock band Ours). Since the Rotary Club plays host, proceeds will benefit Volunteers of America, a program that helps homeless individuals transition to the workplace. Drink up. A living vet may benefit.
