SUV Accident near G Street Left Officer Hospitalized
MERCED, CA (September 8, 2023) – Wednesday evening, authorities sent an officer to a hospital following a two-vehicle crash at 18th and G Streets. The California Highway Patrol received reports of the incident around 9:00 p.m., according to Officer Eric Zuniga. According to the report, a southbound 2014 Jeep Cherokee on G Street hit the left rear of an eastbound 2020 Dodge Charger driven by the officer. Medical responders rushed the 31-year-old officer to a hospital for treatment for minor injuries. Meanwhile, the 28-year-old Jeep driver from Live Oak and his passenger declined medical treatment at the scene. In Zuniga’s statement, it was unclear which driver had the right-of-way at the time of the collision. Police do not suspect drugs or alcohol to be a factor in the incident. The CHP is asking anyone with additional information about the 18th Street two-vehicle crash to contact the Merced-area office at 209-365-6600.
